Το ελληνικό “και”
Το ελληνικό “και” στα αγγλικά αποδίδεται με:
and : Συνδέει προτάσεις, φράσεις ή λέξεις του ίδιου τύπου / είδους.
John and Costas are good students.
I admire and respect my parents.
also : (επίσης) Συνήθως μπαίνει πριν από το κύριο ρήμα, όπως τα επιρρήματα συχνότητας.
I can speak English. I can also speak a little German.
My father has a Citroen C2 to drive around the city. He also has a C5 SUV for longer journeys.
as well : (επίσης) Συνήθως μπαίνει στο τέλος της πρότασης.
I can speak English; I can speak some German as well.
My father has a Citroen C2 but he has a C5 SUV as well.
as well as : Αποδίδει το ελληνικό “καθώς επίσης“.
I like running as well as hiking.

too : (επίσης) Συνήθως μπαίνει στο τέλος της πρότασης ή μετά από τη λέξη που προσδιορίζει.
I have a car; my brother has a car, too.
I know English; Magda, too, knows English.

both (και οι δύο) / all three… : Όταν θέλουμε να χρησιμοποιήσουμε το “και” με αριθμό.
They are both swimming in the pool.
All five students failed the test.
even : Αποδίδει το ελληνικό “ακόμα και“. Σε αρνητική πρόταση σημαίνει “ούτε, ούτε καν”
It is cold here even in June.
Even John knows French.
I don’t even know her name.
He never even read a word for the test.
even if : (ακόμα κι αν)
I will go to the party even if you don’t.

Ακόμα κι αν μου το ζητήσει ευγενικά, δεν θα του δώσω το βιβλίο μου.
Even if he asks politely, I won’t give him my book.
Ούτε καλημέρα δεν είπε.
He didn’t even say good morning.
